The Great Commission of Jesus Christ, as recorded in Matthew 28: 18-20:  “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:  and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.  Amen.”  has always been the main focus of the Hobart Baptist Church, leading to the initiation of overseas mission in the early 1890s.  Missionaries on furlough were an important feature of church services with the congregation looking forward to hearing of the progress made on the mission fields.

In 2000, the mission focal point shifted to fundraising, on a small scale at first, which has gradually become centred on events with the aim of raising more substantial amounts of money to aid overseas workers and those to whom they witness.  In April 2001, the church, on the recommendation of the Missions Committee, signed a covenant with Global Interaction to adopt the people groups, Yao in Malawi and Bengalis in Bangladesh.

Fellowship and Personal Ministries:

Men’s Breakfasts – held about five times a year for fellowship, with a guest speaker participating.

Self-denial Fund – allows people to contribute $1 a week to assist Total Life Care in Malawi.

Local Mission Thrust:

In 2009, food collections on a monthly basis was commenced to aid the local city mission in its care of those in need in the Hobart community.
